As you may be aware from previous blog posts, as part of our seasonal efforts we decided to buck the trend of Xmas and New Year sales and take a different tack.
Essentially we were asking our customers to come on board with us by keeping our product prices stable but donating both a percentage of our sales to a worthy national cause and by undertaking an Xmas shop to contribute to a local one.
Locally we decided to contribute our shopping effort to help our main local hospital and the Southampton Hospital Charity. We are all aware of donations for children and their families who are in need of support but we recognised a further need for a similarly vulnerable age group, the elderly. Often these people are alone in hospital at Xmas with no support network for even the most basic of everyday essentials.
So simply our MD, Neil Sutton and our Marketing Manager, Kim Harper, went xmas shopping. Nothing grand, nothing expensive, rather more a good quantity of essentials such as toiletries, toothpaste, deodorant, hygiene, smattered with some Xmas treats as basic as mince pies, biscuits etc. Little things like combs, brushes, mirrors and so forth.
We took these, all bundled into recyclable Xmas bags, to the hospital and the charity office. We can't tell you how humble this made us feel and how just this small effort was warmly received. Today we received an email from the hospital - here it is -
Thank you for your extremely generous donation of gifts for the patients in our elderly care wards, and for choosing to support Southampton Hospital Charity this over the festive period.
We rely on support from our local community and donations like yours make a real difference to patients and their families when they most need it – especially when they are in hospital over the Christmas period.
Thanks to your amazing donation we were able to support hundreds of patients and their families, ensuring every elderly patient had an advent calendar to open, that every child received a gift on Christmas morning, enabling families to share a Christmas lunch together and keeping everyone entertained while treatment continued.
Thank you again for your donation and support.
Wishing you a very happy New Year.
