Easy Winter Roof Maintenance Tips
It’s that time of year again, it rolls around quickly!
Your home will be one of the biggest investments of your lifetime so we have some top tips to help maintain your home.
Firstly let’s touch on the life span of your flat roof, many of our products have a life expectancy of tens of years. We would go as far as to say a correctly installed flat roof that is periodically maintained can last beyond the general suggestion of life expectancy. Tip One: Check the gutters.
When you want to make sure your roof is in good condition, the first thing you should do is clean it.
You have to remove leaves, mildew, and other debris from your gutters so that you can see its actual condition and assess it accurately. A clean roof can boost your home’s curb appeal, which is one of the primary reasons why people do property renovations. You may not be planning to sell your property any time soon, but it sure won’t hurt you in the long run if you maintain its components well.
Tip Two: Overhang
It’s important to keep in mind that trees can hang over the roof of a house, which can cause damage if not trimmed regularly. If this happens, hire an arborist to trim them to minimise damage to your roof from branches and debris.
Tip Three: Regularly inspect your flat roof.
Now we don’t suggest that each Monday afternoon you scale the roof but, try and carry out regular flat roof inspections to avoid the need for repairs. Schedule an inspection at least two to three times every year to keep on top of your roof maintenance. We’d recommend carrying out your inspection in early Autumn and early Spring to check whether the heat of summer or cold of winter has left any damage.
During your roof inspection, look for clogged gutters, damaged drains and any signs of rot or decay. It’s worth taking the time when using one of our roofing kits, to complete a project to ensure the longevity of the work. You can find our Fibreglass Roof kits here, our Rubber Roof kits here and our Liquid Roof kits here.
Tip Four: Check the insulation.
As you know, heat in the roof is the single greatest threat to your roof. Heat loss through your roof is one of the leading causes of ice damming and water damage.
The best way to do this is by insulating your roof properly. This will help stop air from escaping through the ceiling and keep your house warm in the winter.
